I started by drawing some rough plans ontop of the original.

Then spent many sessions slowly chipping away while chilling out and watching AVGN

You have to tell me how you make that effect where you alternate two colored pixels. It's wow

Thank you! For most of my work I use Paint.NET.

I don't do landscapes very often, I usually do character art, but one tip I can give is to use photo references. And in general, just stick to it and study techniques in pixel art from games that look appealing to you.
